Reviving Maharashtra’s Waterways: Tackling Invasive Species for a Sustainable Future- Aman Surana
I spent my primary school years in a small village situated in Maharashtra. I remember that 15 years it was lush and green with ample of water. Last year I visited my village after and I was shocked to see that despite rains, the river was dry and people faced severe water scarcity. This was due to an invasive species which had destroyed the water bodies. I feel such species need to be eradicated from specific regions with controlled measures which provide both environmental and financial benefit to the region. This will greatly help India in the field of agriculture, ground water level and land utilisation and value unlocking.
