From Forest to Landfill: A Call for Sustainable Waste Management and Environmental Restoration - Divyansh Kumar Agrawal
Since my childhood I always used to explore a forest near my house along with my friends. We used to spend hours playing games, marking routes and collecting dry leaves and pebbles.Things went fine for some years but after then the trees of the forest were brutally cleared to make a flat land. Initially it was decided to use the land for farming purposes but gradually local communities started throwing all their plastic wastes into to that area due to mis management of waste in my locality. The area gradually turned into a junkyard. As years passed by tons of waste was poured in it and now it is even bigger than some of the regions of my area and majority of the waste from the valley gets accumulated there. I believe there should be proper waste management system implemented and strict rules should be introduced. It will also help diversifying the forest economy for a better purpose and preserving habitats of multifarious wild species. Such techniques provide scope for efficient waste management and also the potential to develop further on waste to energy technologies
